If S1 came out with a "Matrix"/"Live" cell based plug-in tool for it, I would honestly not need anything else.
RENOISE VERSION HISTORY UPDATE
Version 6.9 (Jun 12, 2019) JENKINS-48452- Update the description of the orphaned item strategy adding a generic explanation that can be changed by implementations for a more context specific explanation to prevent from misunderstanding.
RENOISE VERSION HISTORY 64 BIT
I think Cakewalk shot themselves in the foot by not becoming Mac Intel compliant.I mean seriously, why would you do that? That being said, S1 is Mac and PC, 64 bit, extremely lithe coding equaling extremely stable 64 bit performance, you can load it onto 5 computers, and I use it and Live solely. New releases are logged in GitHub Releases. But it has a remarkably intuitive workflow, simple layout, and a company that begs its customers to give them feedback and quickly implements the changes. S1 is not as robust in the "extras" like Matrix, the new Channel Strips, etc. The GUI isn't a big deal to many, but as a graphic artist, it honestly really affects me and the speed of my workflow. I personally find Sonar to be very cluttered and restrictive in it's layout. Sonar's Matrix and other tools are fantastic and to be honest as an all-together package I think the best one for PC users. I personally believe Sonar is one of the best if not the best sounding DAW (Prior to using Studio One), probably due to the 64 bit option. You can get a free download from Presonus if you want to check it out. I've been a beta tester for a couple of these as well, so I feel I've got a good pulse on what's in a DAW currently. Yes, I am sort of fan boy, but I own Logic 9, Reason 4, Record, Sonar, Pro Tools, and Live 8. She has a brand new 64 bit code under her hood and she sounds fantastic! At version 1.5, Studio One is already almost as capable as every other mainstream DAW out there, it just lacks some of the finer details like pitch editing, etc. Presonus I believe either bought out Kristal Werks or is subcontracting with them, either way Studio One is an extremely refined, agile, and robust DAW.

The lead developer of Nuendo and one of the heavy hitters behind Cubase (both of whom have been in the industry for decades) left Steinberg and formed Kristal Werks. I honestly didn't think there was any reason for someone to try and enter this market until I started using it.
